As you might have heard, Spotify officially updated their track monetization eligibility earlier this month (April 2024), which may affect your June monthly payouts and beyond. (For more, see Spotify’s official policy details)

Here's what else you need to know:

  • This decision is a significant step towards addressing royalties 'lost in the system' – according to Spotify, millions of tracks are streamed less than a thousand times. Because of transaction and withdrawal fees, those tracks don’t actually net residuals. However, Spotify's new monetization threshold is not just a change; it's an opportunity. It's expected to 'drive an additional $1 billion toward emerging and professional artists.'
  • It's one of several notable changes. Spotify also announced it will require a minimum number of unique listens for songs to receive royalties to combat streaming fraud (which we explained in-depth right here).
  • Spotify is making no additional money from these changes.

These shifts can feel overwhelming, but ABACUOS is here to support your journey through the ever-changing music industry.

ABACUOS Accelerator is designed to help musicians at all stages of development generate more fan engagement and unique listens by providing them with the resources and promotional opportunities to boost their visibility and increase their chances of reaching Spotify's new monetization threshold.
